Ugra preparations for the World Cup commenced |

The World Cup will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk, the Russian Federation, from 27 August to 20 September 2011. Over 100 chess players from 40 countries of the world will participate in this important international event. The tournament consists of 7 rounds 3 days each. The defeated will be out of competition however they will be able to take part in the Ugra Governor’s Cup. It will be held in the Okrug Centre concurrent with the World Cup.

Mrs. Natalia Komarova, Governor of Ugra noted: "We shall organize the event on a high level and create all necessary conditions for the games to be watched by chess fans all over the world. A special media plan will be prepared to enable federal and international mass media successfully cover the event".
Mr. Vasily Filipenko, the Head of Khanty Mansiysk city, President of Chess Federation of KMAO and Mr. Vyacheslav Zhuravlev, Director of AI UgraMegaSport will take part in the meeting of the FIDE Presidential Board in Al-Ain, where they will inform the Board members about the preparation for the World Cup.
Khanty-Mansiysk will be hosting the World Cup for the 4th time and the Ugorian Chess Academy (the venue of the 81st FIDE Congress 2010) will be used for the games for the 1st time.
The participants and guests are expected to arrive on August 26 while the 1st game of the 1st round is scheduled for August 27. The Closing Ceremony will be held on September 20 and Khanty-Mansiysk will see its guests off on September 21.
