On 21 of May FIDE President arrived in Kiev for an official visit.
During the visit he met with the President of the National Olympic Committee, and member of the International Olympic Committee, Sergey Bubka. Present for the meeting was also Mr Viktor Kapustin, President of Ukrainian Chess Federation.
The leaders discussed the development of chess in the Ukraine, cooperation and collaboration of the National Olympic Committee of the Ukraine and the World Chess Federation.
During the interview Kirsan Ilyumzhinov congratulated Sergey Bubka on the successful organisation, under Mr Bubka's leadership, of the World Youth Games in Singapore last year.
Mr. Sergey Bubka was directly involved in the organization as the Chairman of the Organising Committee for the International Olympic Committee.
Kirsan Ilyumzhinov had a meeting also with the President of the Ukrainian Chess Federation, Viktor Kapustin. FIDE President noted that the Ukraine was the winner of the last World Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk and is one of the world's largest chess nations where chess is very popular and have glorious traditions.
Particular attention during the meeting was given to the “Chess in Schools” programme. FIDE President, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov also gave a press conference for the Ukrainian journalists present.
