FIDE President visited Iran where he met with the Head of Iranian Physical Education Organization and the Vice-President Dr. Ali Saeedlou. At the meeting the leaders discussed the development of chess in Iran and Kirsan Ilyumzhinov briefed on the lastest FIDE activities and particularly on the "Chess in Schools" programme. He thanked the Iranian leadership for the attention they pay to the development of chess in the country, there are chess clubs even in the remote provinces of Iran.
FIDE President noted that every year more and more tournaments are held in Iran. These days Mashad city hosted the 10th Asian Continental Individual Championship and the 1st Asian Individual Open Blitz Chess Championship. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov and Mohammad Jafar Kambouzia, FIDE Vice-President, President of Iran Chess Federation took part in the closing ceremony where they congratulated the winners.
