Kazan is considered to be a sports capital of Russia - a city with a rich chess tradition. The Government of the Republic of Tatarstan took great interest in implementing this facility and offered the land in the historic center of the city.

The 25 floor Chess Academy will have the opportunity to hold tournaments with the most advanced internet technologies, allowing players to compete even when they are in different places around the world. In order to comfortably accommodate participants during the tournaments, it was decided to combine the Academy with a world-class hotel complex. Future visitors to the Academy will also have a chance to visit the fitness center in this complex.

FIDE President, Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, placed the base stone of the future Academy in the presence of the first President of Republic of Tatarstan, Senior Advisor to FIDE President Mintimer Shaimiev, the Mayor of Kazan city Ilsur Metshin and many other official guests.
