In Bangkok, Thailand, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was awarded the Buddhagunupakan – Kancanakiartigun – Highest Decoration of Excellence by the House of Representatives of Thailand.
The ceremony was attended by leading Buddhist practitioners and celebrities from all over the World. In his speech to the distinguished audience, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov acknowledged that the receipt of such a prestigious honour carried with it important benefits also to the World Chess Federation.
A number of important visits and meetings were also held throughout the day.
FIDE Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Geoffrey Borg, accompanied FIDE President on the visits.
