Women's World Chess Championship Final Tiebreaks Print

Today, on 24 December 2010 FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived to Antakya, capital of Hatay province in Turkey for crowning new chess queen. The tiebreaks of the final of the Women's World Chess Championship is played here by the 16-year old Hou Yifan and 23-year old Ruan Lufei, both of the chess players are from China. As it is known 4 classical games were drawn and now the title of the Women's World Champion will be defined by the result of the tiebreaks. The FIDE President held a draw for the color and made the first move e2-e4 for Ruan Lufei.

Mr. Lutfu Savas, the Mayor of Antakya, took part in the ceremony. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov told him about the development of chess all around the world. Mr. Savas expressed his wish to hold the World Youth U-20 Chess Championships 2013 in Antakya. The proposal will be considered during the next FIDE Presidential Board in February 2011.
