On 28 November 2010 FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov had a working visit to Socialist Republic of Vietnam. There he met with Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet, President of Vietnam, Mr. Ho Anh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST), Mr. Tran Bac Ha, President of Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV). Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet gave an official dinner in honor of FIDE President. During the meeting Kirsan Ilyumzhinov thanked the Vietnamese party for rendering their support on the FIDE President elections and for the congratulations on this matter. FIDE President noted the considerable progress achieved by the Vietnamese chess players who participated in many chess competitions, especially in youth championships. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov called the Vietnamese leader to pay more attention to the program “Chess in schools”. The pioneer in this activity should be the native province of the Vietnamese President - Binh Duong. The Vietnamese officials highly appreciated the initiative. It was mentioned that the absence of qualified chess trainers is the principal hindrance of further development of chess in Socialist Republic of Vietnam. The main leitmotif of the meeting is that FIDE will help in this question as well as in making Chess Academy there.
