FIDE President met with the General Secretary of UNESCO

On Friday, November 19, the FIDE delegation headed by its President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov met at UNESCO headquarters with General Secretary of this organization Mrs. Irina Bokova. The ways of cooperation between two international organizations were constructively discussed. Ilyumzhinov talked about the events in the chess world, trends and development plans of FIDE. In particular, he spoke in details about the "Chess in schools" project, which Mrs. Bokova was greatly interested in. It was agreed that in the near future FIDE and UNESCO will sign a protocol of intent, which will form the basis for the full agreement between two international organizations. The meeting was attended by the Assistant to General Director for social science Mr. Pilar Alvarez-Lazo, Head of General Director's Office Mr. Andrey Shevelev and FIDE Vice President Mr. Israel Gelfer.
