FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov participated in the Opening Ceremony of the World Blitz Chess Championship which was held in the demonstration hall of GUM Department store in Moscow, 16 November 2010. The assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, Head of the Supervisory Board of the Russian Chess Federation Arkady Dvorkovich; FIDE Vice-President, Head of the Board of RCF Ilya Levitov, the 12th World Champion Anatoly Karpov, Head of "E4 Group" Company (Genaral Partner of the tournament) Mikhail Abyzov took part in the Opening Ceremony as well.

During the ceremony the GM Magnus Carlsen was awarded with Chess Oscar for 2009 year.
