wycc_r3_1The World Youth Chess Championships 2010 continued with round 3 here in Porto Carras, Halkidiki. After multiple surprises and exciting games, leading groups are forming in each section.

GM Samvel Ter-Sahakyan is showing quality in the Open U18 group. He tops the standings with full 3 out of 3, together with FM Zierk, GM Durarbeyli, IM Yilmaz, and the untitled Vladimir Belous.

Girls U18 section is one of the most dynamic groups of the event. Only 3 players are left with perfect score - WIM Irina Bulmaga, WFM Klaudia Kulon (they will face each other in round 4) and WIM Narmin Nizami Qizi Kazimova.

In the U16 sections of the event large movements in the standings are happening as early as round 3. In the Open section the top four rated are all 1/2 or a full point behind the leaders, while the girls are having a mixed start - some of the favorites are still undefeated, while others are already 1,5 points behind the leaders.

The U14 Open section is a shocker for the favorites, as GM Richard Rapport and IM Kiprian Berbatov are now a full point behind the leaders. Right on the other pole is the U14 Girls group where the clear rating leader WFM Saduakassova is with full points on top of the standings.

The U12, U10, and U8 sections have their particular charm, as games and results continue to be unpredictable. The desire and love for the chess game in these children is admirable, many games are played for more than five hours and some even set the records for the day with more than six hours on the board.

Tomorrow is round 4, games start at 16:00 local time.
