The World Youth Chess Championships 2010 opened on Wednesday, October 20th, with brief introductory speeches and round one games in twelve age categories.
The Chief Organizer George Mastrokoukos welcomed the players, parents and trainers and wished them a pleasant two-weeks stay in the beautiful resort Porto Carras, Halkidiki. This competition will be the largest FIDE event ever, which is a great honour and also a great responsibility for the organizers. The hosts will do everything to provide excellent playing conditions.
The ECU Board Member Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou highlighted that Porto Carras is the best designed resort in the Medditarenean and is particularly suited to organize sports events.
Chief Arbiter Panagiotis Nikolopoulos once again welcomed all the guests and gave the sign for games to begin.
