FIDE President at Grand Slam Chess Masters Final in Bilbao Print

On Thursday, 14 October, the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived in Bilbao, venue of the Grand Slam Cup finals. He made first moves in the Kramnik-Anand and Carlsen-Shirov games. The FIDE President has met with the municipality representatives and the tournament organiser Mr. Andoni Madallaga San Joze for working meeting, in particular to discuss an issue of co-operation of the Grand Slam Association with FIDE and possible incorporation of their tournaments into the FIDE official calendar. Towards this end Mr. Ilyumzhinov made a proposal which shall be discussed at the forthcoming Association's meeting in Nanjing, with the further consideration at the FIDE Presidential Board. The Grand Slam series tournaments are organised in Wijk aan Zee, Sofia, Dortmund, Bazna, Nanjing and Bilbao.
