On the 27th of August the FIDE President, Head of the Republic of Kalmykia Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived in the capital of Malaysia Kuala Lumpur on a working visit. FIDE President met the President of the Malaysian Olympic Council Yang Mulia Tunku Tan Sri Imran Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja'afar, where Mr. Ilyumzhinov requested his kind assistance in the inclusion of chess into the Olympic Games programme. There was a constructive dialogue where Mr. Ja'afar noted special popularity and serious perspectives of chess development in Malaysia. There has been a flag transfer symbolic ceremony to the delegation of Malaysian Chess Federation, which shall be taking part in the World Youth Championships 2010 in Greece this October. After that FIDE President met with representatives of mass media. The meeting of Ilyumzhinov with the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Mr. Y.A.B. Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek has started in an unusual way with a chess game. After some serious efforts, the FIDE President found a technical possibility to resign to his honoured opponent. Naturally, the consequent dialogue, which was taking place in a friendly atmosphere, turned out to be very effective. The main topic of the discussion was the further cooperation between FIDE and Malaysia in respect of Chess in Schools programme, and education of trainers and arbiters. All meetings of Kirsan Ilyumzhinov in Kuala Lumpur were held in a friendly cordial atmosphere with the presence of the President of Malaysian Chess Federation Mr. Tan Sri Ramli Ngab Talib.
