Muzychuk and Andreikin are World Junior Champions Print

muzychukThe 2010 World Juniors and Girls U-20 Chess Championships was held from 3rd to 16th August at Chotowa, Municipality Czarna, close to the city of Tarnow in Poland. 122 players in Juniors and 81 in Girls section took participation.

Top seeded players in both sections, IM Anna Muzychuk and GM Dmitry Andreikin, justified their high rankings and won the titles in the Girls and Juniors Championships respectively.

Muzychuk suffered a setback in round 12, against the talented WGM Deysi Estela Cori Tello of Peru, but the last round victory kept her half a point ahead of the Russian WGM Olga Girya.

Andreikin relatively quickly settled for a draw against the second-seeded Jon Ludvig Hammer, while his compatriot Sanan Sjugirov struggled with black in a long game against A.R. Saleh Salem. That game also finished in a draw and Andreikin claimed the title on better additional criteria, while Sjugirov earned a silver medal. To the delight of local chess fans, the bronze went to GM Dariusz Swiercz, who was an early leader in the tournament.

Both competitions were a 13-rounds Swiss events. Bulletins and games in pgn are available for download from the official site.
