FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov made his first official visit to Cambodia today. Immediately upon his arrival, he was met and held several meetings with high level government officials. In the afternoon, the delegation led by FIDE President made the courtesy call to Prime Minister Hun Sen at the Prime Minister's Office. The two leaders had an excellent 90-minute meeting where both sides appreciated the intrinsic values of chess-playing and co-relations between chess and doing business. FIDE President highligted the role of introducing chess in schools and the significant development of the FIDE Academies especially ASEAN Chess Academy.The Prime Minister himself is a passionate player of Cambodian traditional chess called "Ouk". He invited FIDE President for a match in his next visit to Cambodia. FIDE President was accompanied by General Secretary Ignatius Leong and several business leaders. They leave the same evening for Laos.
