On October 22, the Head of Republic of Kalmykia, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov arrived with a visit to Kazan, where he took part in the opening ceremony of the 1st National Sports Forum "Russia - Sports Power". After the opening ceremony Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, Vice-Premier of Russia Alexander Zhukov, Minister of Sports of Russia Vitaly Mutko, the chairman of the National Olympic committee of Russia Leonid Tyagachev visited a special exhibition forum, where the visitors got closely acquainted with a stand of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug - Ugra. On October 23, "Ugra - the territory of sport" forum was arranged, in which the Head of Republic of Kalmykia, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov solemnly lighted a symbolic torch of the forthcoming 39th World Chess Olympiad in Ugra in 2010 and gave it to the Governor of Ugra Alexander Filipenko. Alexander Filippenko considered that this ceremony will become the official beginning of all-Russia campaign "Ugra's Olympic start" in support of the World Chess Olympiad 2010. In the network of the forum "Russia - Sports Power" President of Russia Dmitriy Medvedev met with Presidents of eleven World Sports federations, who took part in the forum, including FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.
