Meetings in Khanty-Mansiysk regarding World Cup 2009 and Olympiad 2010
Olympiad 2010 - FIDE delegation meeting with the Governor of Khanty-Mansiysk
A FIDE delegation consisting of Deputy President, Mr. Georgios Makropoulos, Honorary Vice President, Mr. Israel Gelfer and Assistant to the FIDE President, Mr. Berik Balgabaev met the Governor of Khanty-Mansiysk, Mr. Alexander Filipenko, accompanied by several officials in respect of the forthcoming Olympiad, which is scheduled to take place in Khanty-Mansiysk starting September 19th 2010. Mr. Filipenko emphasized that in spite of the financial issues, which had caused delays to some of the projects, they will fulfil all their obligations and will hold the Olympiad in the best way possible. Deputy President, Mr. Makropoulos, thanked Mr. Filipenko for all his efforts to hold chess events and emphasised the excellent experience FIDE had with the region. Regarding the new hotel which is being built with 850 rooms, Mr. Makropoulos expressed his concern about it being ready on time. Mr. Filipenko confirmed that the hotel will definitely be ready in July 2010. Mr. Filipenko also stressed that Khanty-Mansiysk will continue to be active and intends to hold several chess events after the Olympiad.
World Cup 2009 – FIDE meeting with Organising Committee On May 6th, the FIDE delegation met the Organising Committee of the World Cup, which will take place this year in Khanty-Mansiysk, starting November 19th. Deputy President Mr. Makropoulos and Mr. Bondarev, Head of the Organising Directorate, signed the contract for this event.
