The 6th Mediterranean Chess Championship finished yesterday with a thrilling last round as the new men's champion became known only after 116 moves have been played on the top board between Anthony Wirig and Mert Erdoğdu. This draw allowed IM Ionnais Georgiadis of Greece to claim the Championship on better tiebreak as he ended on the same score with Wirig. Georgiadis also earned a GM norm.

The Women Champion's trophy will remain in Montenegro for another year. Ultra-talented WIM Jovana Vojinovic took it over form the hands of her compatriot WIM Ljilja Drljevic. Italian champion IM Elena Sedina finished with same points as Vojinovic, but with weaker additional criteria. According to the tournament rules, men and women play together in the same group and the best placed female player is proclaimed the Champion.
