The FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, arrived on a working visit in Seoul, South Korea, on 28 November 2008. On November 29th he took part in the Opening Ceremony of a big international chess event -  Korea Open Chess Tournament (Hi Seoul), held under the auspices of FIDE.

The same day Kirsan Ilyumzhinov had a working meeting with Hyun Insuk, President of the Korean Chess Federation. During the meeting, questions of development and popularization of chess in South Korea have been discussed, and in particular, the prospects of implementing a FIDE programme "Chess in Schools" in South Korea, to include chess in the school curriculum. As it was noted at the meeting, the first international chess tournament being held in Seoul will be a good impetus for the chess development in South Korea.
