After the beautiful opening ceremony yesterday, today the Chess Olympiad in Dresden has started. The first move of the Olympiad was made by the Honorary FIDE President Florencio Campomanes in the giant playing hall full of players, journalists, and accompanying people.
New rules brought exciting games
The Chess Olympiad has new pairing system and also implies no short draws rule. This factor had a strong effect on the games, and there were very few games that finished before move 30 with a 3 move repetition. The boards turned into a battlefield and the chess fans could enjoy fantastic duels. All games were live on the official website, while the fans could also enjoy minute by minute reports from Chessdom.com and photographs by Susan Polgar.
