The World Youth Chess Championship 2008 will take place in Vung Tau, Vietnam, October 20-30. Until now 70 federations are sending more than 800 players to the World Youth Chess Championship in Vung Tau, Vietnam. Among the biggest delegations are the host from Vietnam (95), India (63), USA (30), and South Africa (33).

Looking at the top players, however, we will notice a clear dominance of the Indian team. 22 players out of the 63 coming from India are at the top 5 seeded in their age group. The dominance among the younger players is even more clear. In the U12 boys and U10 girls 4 out of the 5 top players are from India, FM Darwin Yang and WFM Haussernot Cecile being the only two players to disturb their majority.

Things are quite different in the U18 groups though. In the boys section Vietnam is sending their two best youth chess players - GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and GM Le Quang Liem. They will have strong opposition from Europe in the face of GM David Howell, IM Ivan Saric, IM Emre Can, and IM Jacek Tomczak. In the girls U18 section the European artillery - WGM Katerina Nemcova,WGM Valentina Gobulenko, Inna Agrest, and WFM Kubra Ozturk, will clash with the Asian tallentsWGM Anya Corke, WFM Guliskhan Nakhbayeva, and Preethi Rajkumar.

For the third time in history there will be an U8 sections for boys and girls. In the previous years such events were held in Batumi (Georgia) and Kemer (Turkey) and the boys sections were won by Ch Mohineesh (India) and Konstantin Savenkov (Russia), while the girls section was won twice by Ivana Maria Furtado (India). Now we can see Ivana Maria Furtado in the attack of the U10 title, as she is third seeded in the starting list.
