On 23 May of 2008, in age of 75th, the first Georgian International Grandmaster (awarded in 1970) Bukhuti Gurgenidze (13 November 1933 - 23 May 2008) passed away after hard illness. He was Chess Champion of Georgia for 11 times. Bukhuti Gurgenidze participated in Chess Championships of USSR for 7 times. As the Honorary Trainer of Soviet Union he helped to such strong chess players as Nana Alexandria, Nona Gaprindashvili, Maia Chiburdanidze, Nana Ioseliani and others. Chess was his life and passion till the end of his days.
