Yesterday, July 26th, a top-level meeting was held in Lima (Peru) FIDE and the Organizacion Deportiva Suramericana (ODESUR), the multi-sports organization in charge of organizing the South American Games.


ODESUR was represented by its President, Camilo Pérez, as well as its Secretary-General and President of the Technical Commission, Mario Moccia. On behalf of FIDE, our President Arkady Dvorkovich, Executive Director Victor Bologan, and the Councillor of the FIDE Events Commission and President of the Panama Chess Federation, Jose Carrillo. Also present were Sports Secretary for Argentina, Diógenes de Urquiza, the President of the Argentinian Chess Federation Mario Petrucci (who organized the meeting), the President of the Venezuelan Chess Federation, Fidel González, and the Councillor for Chess in Education, Leontxo Garcia.

During the meeting, Arkady Dvorkovich expressed his interest in having chess included in the main program of the South American Games to be held in Asuncion (Paraguay) in 2020. The proposal was well-received by Camilo Perez, how expressed his respect and admiration towards our sport. Mario Moccia went on to explain what would be the next steps to make a formal proposal.
