FIDE Vice President Anastasia Sorokina was re-elected as President of the Belarus Chess Federation for a second 4-year term.
The decision was made at the BCF Conference by 24 delegates from the regions of Belarus on June 1. Anastasia's reelection was hardly a surprise: under her leadership, Belarus rapidly became one of the most active chess federations in the world. In the last 2 years, the BCF has organized two World Cadet Championships and launched an ambitious Chess in Schools program.
The Women's World Cup 2020, the World Cup 2021 and the Chess Olympiad 2022 will be held in the country's capital, Minsk. A lot of effort is being put on "preparing strong national teams for the upcoming Olympiad 2022, but we also want to pay more attention to veterans and to chess for people with disabilities", explained Anastasia.
Sorokina has extensive experience in all fields of chess: she represented Belarus in two chess Olympiads as a player, plus one more in which she played for Australia, a country where she lived for some years. She has worked as a coach and founded her own chess academy, and in recent years she has earned herself a well-deserved reputation as one of the most competent International Arbiters.
