FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich visited Edinburgh Chess Club and delivered a speech there on the 20th of November. It is the first time ever that the head of World Chess Federation visits Scotland.

Established in 1822 and now approaching its bicentenary Edinburgh Chess Club is not only the oldest club in Scotland and the UK but the second-oldest in the world after Zurich (est. 1809). This club has a rich history and a long list of legendary visitors, including Howard Staunton, John Nunn, Jonathon Speelman, world champions Jose Raul Capablanca, Alexander Alekhine, Anatoly Karpov, Veselin Topalov.
