Americas Continental Assembly votes not to support any candidate that is under judicial sanction.

The Americas Continental Assembly was held at San Jose, Costa Rica on July 2-4th, 2017.

26 federations attended the meeting out of 34 members. We were honoured by the presence of FIDE Deputy President, Mr. Makropoulos.

After the President’s report a motion was presented in order to protect FIDE from any external harm, the motion reads as follow:

"The Confederation of Chess of America and its affiliated national federations will not support in any way, especially political or institutional, those persons who intend to join the International Chess Federation (FIDE) or Confederation of American Chess (CCA) through their electives positions, and that:

Are subject to judicial sanction or interdiction, initiated by countries through their administrative or judicial bodies or international organizations, which imply a discredit or risk of discredit to CCA or FIDE."

After discussion, a vote was taken the result being 26 in favor, 2 against (Nicaragua and Venezuela). The 6 federations not attending the meeting were: BVI, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Trinidad-Tobago and USA.

Later GM Darcy Lima was elected as Americas member to the 2018 Electoral Commission.

The 2019 calendar was approved and will be published on the CCA web page.

The financial report was approved and the Treasurer discharged.
