M IvanchukUkrainian grandmaster Vassily Ivanchuk showed his class and won the Capablanca Memorial for the 8th time. He scored a stunning 7 out of 10 in the six-player double round-robin tournament, which was held in Havana (Cuba), on May 3-13. The Capablanca Memorial took place for the 54th time in honor the third official world champion José Raúl Capablanca (1888–1942). It's well known that the Memorial is the lucky event for 50-years-old legendary Ukrainian, so he tries not to miss his annual trip to Havana.

American GM Sam Sevian and GM David Anton from Spain tied for the second place, half a point behind the winner.

In the eighth round, Ivanchuk was defeated by Sam Sevian, which allowed David Anton to catch him and keep the tournament result open until the very last round. The Ukrainian star outplayed Baskaran Adhiban of India -who had a very disappointing tournament and finished last-, while David Anton could not impose his extra pawn against the local GM Alboronoz and had to settle for a draw.
