Ahmed Adly wins Zone 4.2 Championship in Kenya Print

Zone 4.2 Open and ladies Championships took place in Mombasa, Kenya. Egyptian Ahmed Adly became the sole leader in the tournament after 6 rounds and finished on the first place with 8/9. His nearest rivals are Arthur Ssegwanyi and Haruna Nsubuga both from Uganda, who finished just half a point behind and shared 2nd place in the championship. Thus, Ahmed Adly qualifies for the 2019 FIDE World Cup.

31 players from 11 federations, including Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda, take part in the open section (full standings).

Ivy Claire Amoko won the women's section with 7,5/9, one point ahead of the nearest rival. Alaa Moaataz, Sohayla Abdelmenaem both from Egypt took silver and bronze medals. 14 players from 6 federations took part in the tournament (full standings).


Kenya Chess Federation was the organizer of the championships.
