Daniel Anwuli wins Zone 4.4 in Ghana and qualifies for the World Cup Print

Zone 4.4 championship finished on April 27 in Ghana. Daniel Anwuli scored 7.5 points out of 9 rounds to claim the first prize and a qualification spot at the FIDE World Cup which will take place in Khanty-Mansiysk (Russia), in 2019.

The tournament was held from 21st to 27th April 2019 at the Oceanic Resort, Accra, Ghana. A total number of 53 players from 7 federations, including Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Togo and hosts Ghana, took part in this event. Nigeria dominated the event both in quantity and quality: they sent 20 players, and they took the 14 top places! Olanrewaju Ajibola was second and Akintoye Abdulraheem third.

Toritsemuwa Ofowino won the women section with impressive 8.5/9. 18 players from 6 federations took part in the women's group. Perpetual Eloho Ogbiyoyo was second with 7.5 points and Vivian Dzaayem was third with 7 points. Nigerian lady players occupied the top 5 slots.

GM Maurice Ashley from the USA was the Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony.
