Chess and Draughts Festival in Moldova. Print

On 17 May 2008 Republican Chess and Draughts Festival dedicated to Youth Year and Sports Day took place at the territory of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Chisinau, Moldova. The Festival was held on the initiative of the Agency of Sports of Moldova with technical assistance of the Ministry of Education and Youth, by the Republican Chess and Draughts club together with the Federations of Chess and Draughts of Moldova.

Over 1500 fans of chess and draughts participated in the Festival, most of the participants were schoolchildren and young people.

The program of the Festival consisted of various chess tournaments, competitions of chess tasks and problems solutions, an exhibition and sale of chess literature and equipment, as well as tournaments for veterans.

This Festival was opened by General Director of Agency of Spors Andrei Chmil, President of Chess Federation of Moldova Vladimir Molozhen and President of Draughts Federation Valery Raku.
The winner of the chess blitz-tournament became Alexander Ogleznev, the runner-up was Alexander Eletzkikh and Sergey Mokanu was the third in the tournament. Denis Dudko became a winner of the draughts blitz-tournament, the runner-up was Norel Monya and the third place took Julia Romanskaya. Ion Kapcha, Mikhail Kroytor and Georgy Verde became the winners of the competition in solving chess and draughts tasks. A young chess player Oleg Gorbanovsky won the famous Grandmaster Dmitry Svetushkin. A vice-president of Chess Federation of Moldova Nikolai Pyrtsak on behalf of the company "Green NF Group "awarded the player with memorable set of chess. Among the draught players Kristina Zaruba managed to make a draw with the World Champion Elena Miskova.

During the competitions the famous sport journalist Fiodor Skripchenko awarded the most active participants and fans of the Festival with his books about chess. All participants of the Festival express their gratitude to the organizers of such remarkable youth holiday, to the leadership of the National Opera and Ballet Theatre, which rendered the necessary assistance in order the Festival to be held on a high organizational and sports level with a success.

Announcement.

On 25 May 2008 at 10-00 a.m. the holiday of pupils who have excellent marks in chess lessons will take place in the Republican Chess and Draughts Club. The chess lessons are taught by the program of the project of GM Viorel Bologan. This project is being held in the village schools of Moldova under aegis of FIDE and Chess Federation of Moldova. There are the display of multi-board chess-plays and awarding ceremony for the best pupils of chess lessons and their trainers in the program of the holiday.
