World Cadet U8, U10, U12 Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2018


Minsk, Belarus 

21 - 25 June 2018


The 2nd FIDE World Cadets Rapid & Blitz Championships among boys and girls under 8, 10 and 12 years old took place in Minsk, Belarus from 22nd till 24th of June. More than 750 young chess players from 27 countries took part in both events.

European Amateur Chess Championship 2018


Niksic, Montenegro

13 - 21 June 2018


European Amateur Chess Championship 2018 took place from 13th-21st June in Niksic, Montenegro, with participation of more than 180 players from 18 European federations, which is the new participation record of the event. The championship had 3 different rating categories (Open and Women section): U2300, U2000 and U1700. The total prize fund of the event which was played in 9 rounds, Swiss system, was 5000 EUR. Top three players of each category were awarded with cups and medals.

WFM Zherebtsova Alexandra (RUS, 2195) with 6 points became the European Women Amateur Chess Champion 2018. Acarbay Algi (TUR, 1892) took silver medal with 4.5 points and Koljevic Nikolina (MNE, 1832) took bronze with 4 points.

Results U2000 Open

2. Ince Safiye Oyku (TUR, 1762)
3. Bozinovic Boban (AUT, 1930)

Besides the girls who won the Open event, the best ranked women players were: Fransson Pia (SWE, 1486) with 4 points, Ruzic Pia Marie (SLO, 1737) and Rakic Tijana (MNE, 1554) with 3.5 points each.

In Women section U1700, Meremyanina Kseniya (RUS, 1581) won the event with 7.5 points. Koc Azra Ece (TUR, 1508) ended second with 7 points and Grishina Zhanna (RUS, 1585) finished the event with bronze medal and 6.5 points.



19th ASEAN Age Group Chess Championships

Davao City, Philippines

18 - 28 June 2018


The 19th ASEAN+ Age-Group Chess Championships 2018 took place at the Royal Mandaya hotel in Davao City, Philippines from 18th to 28th of June. With 366 players from 12 countries, this year’s championship is the fourth biggest in history.

VIETNAM is back as champion in the 19th ASEAN+ Age Group Chess Championships. The Vietnamese did it the old-fashioned way: winning big in both the standard and rapid events and doing just enough in the blitz side of the three-part competitions.

The Vietnamese captured 70 golds, 52 silvers and 30 bronzes at the end of the week-long competition organized by Chess Events international in cooperation with the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP), Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Davao City government.

The Filipinos’ haul — 55 golds, 45 silvers and 26 bronzes.

FEU captured 17 golds, eight silvers and 2 two bronzes.

American Continental, Classical, Rapid and Blitz Championships 2018

Montevideo, Uruguay

1 - 11 June 2018

24 GMs and 20 IMs participated in the American Continental Championship. The tournament was an 11-round Swiss Open. Besides Uruguay, the countries that sent most players were Brazil (32), Argentina (28), Chile (14) and United States (14).

Shankland and Flores won two of the four World Cup spots offered in the tournament.

7 players that tied after 11 rounds had to play a single round robin rapid tournament to decide who gets other two places in the World Cup.

Jorge Cori and Emilio Cordova qualified for the World Cup.

9 -18 June 2018


27 players took part in the Open championship and 5 players participated in the Women’s event.

18th IPCA World Individual Chess Championship 2018

59 players took part in the 18th IPCA World Individual Chess Championship 2018 Prague, which was organized by Czech production s.r.o. and IPCA – (International Physically Disabled Chess Association).

Commonwealth Chess Championship 2018

New Delhi, India

25 June - 4 July 2018

The Commonwealth Championships was organized by the Delhi Chess Association in New Delhi from June 26th to July 3rd. The championship tournament was held as an open tournament, with over 160 players participating. P. Karthikeyan won the gold medal, Vaibhav Suri – silver, Debashis Das – bronze.

Tania Sachdev became the best women players, M. Mahalakshmi took the silver medal and Kiran Manisha Mohanty – bronze.
